At an altitude of 2,476 meters, Monte Vettore is the highest peak in the Sibillini Mountains massif and one of the most significant summits in the Apennines. It is the highest and most recognizable mountain in the Umbria and Marche regions; its peak lies within the municipalities of Norcia and Montemonaco, as well as the Sibillini Mountains National Park. Nestled in the shadow of the summit is a glacial cirque containing the small Lake Pilato, the only natural lake in the Marche region.
