Colle San Nicolò

Colle San Nicolò

This is the city's highest point; converted into an amusement park starting in 1958, it is partially bordered by the city walls (15th–16th centuries), which include the *Torrione* (Great Tower) featuring Ghibelline battlements, restored in 1958. Just a few meters away stands a gazebo, a wood-and-glass structure built in 2003 and inaugurated on July 5th. At the summit stands the Church of San Nicolò. As you traverse the hill (it is recommended to walk close to the railing first, then the wooden fence), you can admire much of the historic center, with its many towers, and a panoramic view stretching from Mount Conero to the Gargano Peninsula, and from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea; thanks to this 360-degree vista, the city is known as the "Belvedere of the Piceno."
