The Majectic Oak by the Court Tower

The Majectic Oak by the Court Tower

This ancient oak tree, located near the Court Tower in Maribor, stands as the one of the oldest and mosz significant trees in the city, with an estimated age of 200 years.

Standing proudly next to Maribor's Judgment Tower is an oak tree that's been around for centuries. This isn't just any tree - it's a historical giant! With a trunk so thick that it takes 481 cm to wrap around, and height that stretches over 25 meters, it's no wonder it's the oldest and thickest tree in the city center. It's believed to have been growing even when the city walls were still up, making it one of the few survivors from medieval times - right alongside the famous Old Vine nearby. At least 200 years old, and possibly even older, this oak is not just a tree, it's a local natural monument!

Over the years, it has witnessed important events, including the fire that broke out in the Judgment Tower back in 1937. Positioned near the former Minorite Monastery, now home to Maribor Puppet Theatre, this oak is a symbol of Maribor's resilience, standing tall despite the challanges of urban development. Thanks to regular care, like pruning and nourishing the soil, this oak continues to thrive, standing as a lasting testament to the bond between nature and city life.
