Welcome to the Vinag Wine Cellar, located right in the city centre of Maribor. This is one of the largest and oldest classical wine cellars in Europe, a true underground marvel.

A Journey Through History

The oldest section of this cellar dates back to 1847. As you walk through, you'll discover over 2.1 kilometers of underground passages, a testament to its long history. The cellar's total capacity is an impressive 3 million litres, stored in a variety of vessels including traditional wooden barrels and concrete tankers.

What to See

  • Underground Passages: Wander through the extensive tunnels that make up this historic cellar.
  • Wooden Barrels: Observe more than 144 wooden barrels, some of which have been here for many years.
  • Wine Archive: A highlight of your visit will be the wine archive, where bottles of the best vintages are carefully stored, some with a beautiful wine patina.

After your exploration of this 'Maribor underground', you'll have the opportunity to visit a pleasant tasting room. Here, you can indulge in an excellent wine experience, sampling some of Vinag's finest wines. You can also purchase wines directly from the cellar to take home as a souvenir of your visit.

Guided tours are available in Slovenian and English, and can also be arranged in German. The visit typically lasts 1.5 hours and includes a guided tour of the cellar along with wine samples.
